The Rigel system! Is that the same system containing . . . I played in a Tails From the Floating Vagabond campaign in which my character and another player's had an extensive history of adventuring in the man worlds of the Rigel system. A recurring exchange went something like: "But, wait, remember that time back on Rigel 77?" "Of course -- the Philosopher's Stone! We can use it to . . . " That was such a fun, goofy game.

T2FV... a wonderful game... not very good for any form of Trek, but very fun. Wish I could find a couple of people willing to play around here.

Ok... I've just finally (I'm 48 next month) started reading ERB's Mars series {FOR THE FIRST TIME}, and have finished through book 5 (I need to find books 6 & 11).
This is pathetic, because my mother read us the Tarzan books & some Pellucidar ones when I was 5-7!
Anyways... I can now see the merits of this concept. Let me do some thinking, and I'll get back to you.

Glad you are reading them! Awesome books. IMO, the best by far are the original trilogy (Princess/Gods/Warlord) plus #6 (Master Mind) and maybe #10 (Llana of Gathol). I would read at least those, but if you are not tiring of the series, just read them all!

Not tiring... I just don't have all of them.
Similarly, I haven't read any Carson of Venus either.

Fantastic campaign concept. The FASA Orions book had (from memory - books lost in house move!) three Orion types uplifted and enslaved millenia ago by some ancient super race. But the Os finally rebelled and took over. Much like ST now, the Trinary system was a core trading world for myriad alien societies/empires/alliances etc. So plenty stuff lying around to be discovered. Os were :- Grey (light grey to dark grey to jet black) who were the technicians, diplomats, scientists etc Ruddy (yellow to brown to red) who were the traders, commanders, ship crew etc Green (yep, shades of green) who were the muscle, "grunts" and exotic "slave" women (who actually had a tightly managed "guild" so enabling them to decide who "owned them at any given time!). But Ruddy's actually overan, mostly wiped out and enslaved the remaining Grey's a many hundred years ago, so starting a slow technological decline. Still living Greys are enslaved in sealed secure modules. A SF Intelligence team discovered this but got stopped by the Os before they could get away. Maybe an ongoing campaign thread?

And thinking about it further..... Maybe Klingons with their dueling tradition (as seen in "Day of the Dove") might better fit the Buroughs feel than Starfleet would ....?

Klingons could certainly be present in such a campaign. But I imagined it along the lines of, What if Captain Pike does decide to go rogue?
