I went through and compiled (a number of years ago) a look at the various ST rank systems, both TOS and TNG eras. Just made some updates to it. It's at aramis.hostman.us/trek/ranks.htmlI also have small thumbnails of the various uniforms I've seen, which while not quite updated to my satisfaction (I still have gold rather than lime for the command branch), it gives a quick look at the variety of uniforms. Doesn't include Enterprise, but does include TNG/DS9/Voy and Movies. it's at aramis.hostman.us/trek/ug/unif.htmlenjoy.

An interesting look at the ranks through the ages, Aramis. Good job and thanks for sharing this!

I've been updating them since the late 90's. Kind of a hobby. Great for "OK, here's the uniform of the era."
Small graphics were used because bndwidth norms were 56kbps modem, not "high-speed" 100kbps ISDN/Cable.

Useful!
Some time ago, when I was writing the rank section for my game, someone asked me about enlisted crew because my rank table only accounts for officers. I couldn't find anything that really made any sense. This is a lot clearer than the explanations I found.
I probably still won't expand that section to include them, but this looks like a good resource I can point people to should the need arise.

I just this morning added the "Motionless Picture" enlisted ranks, BTW. ANd corrected the maquis officer devices from voyager.
And thanks, slortar.

have redone the graphics, but not all are up yet. Old version still up, new version of officer graphics at: aramis.hostman.us/trek/nrv/Actual new version of the essay still being worked upon. Due to having looked through the auction pics, I're redone a BUNCH of the images. Warning: It won't work in Firefox on Mac, as that one doesn't support SVG graphics. It does work in Safari and Chrome, so here's for the checking, guys.

IE doesn't surprise me; It's lagged behind the curve since the 90's.

In other words, your table is useless for most of us.

Safari and Chrome both support SVG, BB. FF was supposed to pick up SVG, but hasn't yet. MS is notoriously bad about implementing other people's standards, and IE has been broken for years due to it, has massive unpatched security links, and numerous other problems, like not actually adhering to the HTML compliance standards.... (It's also the least number of hits on my website analysis...) I do know a workaround, and I'm not pulling the old version, either. It's a second, parallel modality. On the other hand, I found a bunch of errors on the old one when I compared it to the auction photos. But I'm not fixing the gifs. That's way more work than I'm willing to do. The SVG's are vector, rather than raster, allowing very small files to carry a lot of scalable image. There are, however, some SVG plugins for IE. FF 4.0 is supposed to include SVG, as well. Supposedly, Opera, Safari, and Chrome all support SVG right now. Oh, and I found that FF3.6.13 will render the individual images, but not in image tags. So you can right-click on the broken-image icon, and select view image, and it does, in fact, result in seeing the image.

Ah, yes... that 'right-click/view" work-around does work!
Thanks.
