"Beggin' pardon sir, n chain o command n all that, but shouldn't this take precedence over a taxi run? Ah just think we're gonna get our asses kicked wi'out checkin' it out." said Grayson, staring longingly at the view screen. "Ah mean, what if someone else takes a look n whatever caused all that gets them too? Maybe Command can give us an extra day, is all ah'm sayin'."

Vork, looking up from the console sputters, "But as it sits, if we divert, we'll make a mess out of ourselves, and blow the engines. "
He clicks the intercom, "Hold off on the shuttle! We can't power it up... let ya know when we can!"

Jasper reaches out with his feelings to try and assess Spacehand Vork's emotional state.
In a calm tone of voice, Jasper says to Mr. Vork, "thank you for your assessment Spacehand Vork. I had already belayed the order to power up the shuttle."
Turning to Alexander, his blue fur ripples across his face for a brief moment as he says, "Ensign Grayson, our mission is not merely a 'taxi run.' We are tasked with patrolling Videni border of Confederation space. Please hail Starbase Adak immediately, and transmit all data we have on this ship."
A few minutes later, Alexander has a frequency open with Lt. Commander Fritz Lunky in Sector Operations at Starbase Adak and Jasper speaks with him, "Sir, breaking Warp and taking time investigate this seemingly dead ship may delay our current mission plan. Shall we continue with our planned mission, or take the time to investigate the situation? What are your orders, Sir?"

OOC: Jasper uses his Empathy psionic power to get a feel for Mr. Vork's current emotional state.

The commander, through the warp haze, seems to say several expletives under his breath. He then proceeds to order the ship to make the border run, and he'll send you back to recover it if it's still there after the passenger comes in to base. the connection fails before closing pleasantries.
Mr Vork is visibly relieved. his underlying terror of the freighter passes, tho' when Jaspar mentions it to Lunky, it flares, and the trace of a link is blown wide open, his fear primal, poerful, and traumatic.

Once the connection winks out of existence, Jasper spares a furtive look at Spacehand Vork before addressing everyone on the Bridge, "Gentlemen, we have our orders. We continue on our planned mission course immediately."
Turning to Vork, he asks, "Mr. Vork, you seemed especially agitated when discussing this derelict ship. Is there something you can add to this mystery? If so, I would like to hear it."

Grayson opens his mouth to speak, but the Captains words seem final by their tone. For once in his life his brain overrules his mouth and his swivels the chair to continue the sensor scans at the console he's at.
He takes one last look at the doomed freighter, then gets on with his duties.

Mr. Vork stares for a moment, then turns, saying, "I've seen ships with that much blood on the bridge, but only after things went terribly, terribly wrong. My 1st assignment was recovery of derelicts to duty.... Bad memories of bad smells and mutilated bodies."

A genuine look of empathy washes over Jasper's furry face, and is in his tone as he says considerately, "I am sorry that you had to relive those memories. What do you think is the cause?"

"That's hand to hand, Sir. Hand to hand on the freaking bridge."

"No, I meant some kind of mass hysteria, space sickness, or some other factor," Jasper says.
He smiles wide and says in a lighthearted tone, "besides, anyone trying any of that stuff on my Bridge will have to answer to Security Chief O'Keef."

Grayson glances at the Captain, then Vork. He would've preferred to investigate the ship but knew there was a chain of command for a reason - usually being that those most suited to command and make decisions were better at it than grunts like Ensign Grayson. He grinned ruefully. They'd never know, but perhaps the Captains decision had saved all their lives. Best leave the dead ship and its secrets to another, larger more able crew, lest there be another derelict craft floating through the void...

Jasper was walking out of the Head onto the Bridge when Mr. Vork says, "Sir, sensors have detected another ship within one light year in Waypoint 0309 at Warp 2."
As he sits in the Captain's chair, Jasper says, "thank you Spacehand Vork. Please bring up all information the screen."
As Jasper is concentrating on the information on the screen, his blue fur unconsciously ripples across his body. He takes a moment or two to formulate his action plan about this situation.
A little less than a minute later, he says, "Ensign Grayson, please maintain current speed and heading. Please monitor this ship continuously and report if it changes it present course or speed."
Turning to Paddy, he says, "Chief O'Keef, I want a manual and visual inspection of all weapon systems completed by SD2102.32."

Paddy's face contorts, making her look rather like a turkey vulture, as she grumbles, "Aye, sir." She shuts down her monitor, and glumly heads off the bridge and to weapons. She examines the missiles, finding and fixing a wiring problem due to her expertise in weapons by 2202.315.
She hops on the all call, "Got green on all weapons. Am gonna take a nap before we meet that ship." She meanders the long way round to her quarters, tells the computer to wake her at 2102.365, and zonks out like only a tired grunt can do.

Grayson thinks to himself 'Action at last!' before he realises its not action they are after. They have a job to do, and a certain amount of time to do it in.
"Recommend we avoid contact with other ships unless we can help it sir? It will make for a dull journey but as we know, we're working to a schedule. That said, I still feel bad about leaving that freighter drifting. Isn't there any makeup time in our schedule?" asked Grayson, trying to stay within the bounds of his authority and not question his superior too much.

Mr. Vork visibly chokes on his coffee as Ens. Grayson suggests going back to the freighter.
Mr. Johnson, quietly sipping a spot of tea, lights up like a Christmas Tree at this.
