Grayson will give up on trying to communicate with the Alien if the Captain can't make any headway. If that's the case he will respectfully shrug and back off, hopefully avoiding any confrontation before the group decides on their next objective. Clearly the language barrier will stop us from proceeding further, as I fear Grayon will eventually blurt out the equivalent of "your mother smells like a goats backside" in the aliens tongue, without knowing it...

contact roll to pull out the PC's... [dice=20] vs an 8-
Needed because y'all weren't in quite one group, and because someone else moved in.[rand=4860980031080544221790003590285784992845579981804112306670518592]

If there's anything to press, twist, activate, use or otherwise look at on the ball Grayson was given, he'll probably do something with it. Otherwise, if the alien says to eat it, he's just about dumb enough to shrug and pop it in his mouth anyway.

Hehehe... I forgot that Alex had that ball thing in his hands at the time. Cool.

He's not a half wit, just proof that centuries of inbreeding and a shrinking gene pool will reduce the IQ in the family line. He really needs to marry someone smart so that their kids will have their intelligence level raised to 'village idiot' or thereabouts.

TEC roll for the transporter: [dice=20][rand=41069291782157946558462533793014240021972967407455636152705465333]

It's going to take several hours to repair the transporter after the overload.
With RJ doing the fixing, with paddy's help (she's a security goon, remember), it will be about 1 hour before it can go again.

We need to do something with the alien - it's not been hostile, but exposing the thing to technology it's never seen before would be 'a bad thing', so Grayson will suggest taking it to hydroponics, under casual guard ("guard but don't look like your guarding... I dunno.. 'guard casual' " sort of thing) or as a last resort, a cell. There's always going down in a shuttle too, but if it tries anything that's a small place to be locked in with something potentially nasty.
Anyhow - what objectives do we have with this planet now - find out what the Videni wanted, and whether they got it or not? Contact the government to sell the Federation to them? Meet the natives, learn the language, befriend them then bomb them from orbit? (The 'we come in peace - shoot to kill' method of selling hello).

An hour? Okay, applying Scotty-time estimates.

I figure we take him to Sick Bay and try to effect some non-evasive scanning of the creature to obtain preliminary information on this species' biology. I figure we treat it as a guest and graciously until it gives us cause not to treat it nicely. Jasper would like to establish some contact with the intelligent native species, and lay the ground work for further contact by the Confederation. At this point, Jasper's focus and goal is to obtain and record as much information about this planet and its intelligent natives as possible. Naturally, Jasper is curious to find out more information about the Videni contact with the planet. We should spent our alloted time here gathering all the information that we can, and then return to Starbase Adak and complete our mission. Do you guys have any other goals or things that you want to explore before we leave the system?

Let's see if you recalibrate the Translator for the different alien: [dice=20] vs Jaspar's Contact of (checks, GM sees 19, and remembers...) [rand=4642924859654158416903422237373888821675318526104143324298807419837]

Do you guys have any other goals or things that you want to explore before we leave the system? Well, we haven't blown anything up and sent shock wave rings spreading out into space yet, so at some point Grayson will start shooting at stuff I expect. Other than that, if we can find out what the Videni want from the planet (subjugation, raw materials, technology or just wanna be mean and bully the natives) and stop them that would be a 'win' for me. As for actions, Grayson was to stow the weapon away in a locker away from anything explosive or combustible.

Just waiting to see if anyone has any other interaction prior to herding the guest to the mess hall...

Well, Jasper's plan is to take the alien to Sick Bay and take some passive readings and recordings of the alien with the medical computer and sensors, if possible. I figured that Sick Bay could provide us with a cup of water for the alien. If we can't get any water in Sick Bay, then Jasper will take the alien to the Mess Hall first and then try to effect his Sick Bay plan.
Jasper is not trying to be exceptionally stealthy or sneaky with conducting the readings and scan in Sick Bay, and will be sensitive to the alien's reaction. Jasper considers this contact as critical and will be honest and forthright with the alien if directly questions about anything he says or does in a friendly tone and demeanor.
