Amazing how many different episodes seem to have come out of that single premise!

Interesting how some things I assumed to be corruptions of the show’s premise actually were planned from the start. Like this, regarding the captain: “As with similar men in the past (Drake, Cook, Bougainville and Scott), his primary weakness is a predilection to action over administration, a temptaion to take the greatest risks onto himself.” (People often complain that the captain shouldn’t be on landing parties himself.) Particularly interesting is page 9, the actual orders for the ship. It shows that the scope of their mission includes “patrolling” and support missions in addition to pure exploration.

That's a neat find. I have a book called "The Making of Star Trek" and I think parts of this is contained therein, but to find it all in one doc is pretty amazing!

Very cool. I really like the episode write-ups...I'd probably watch any of them as written. Interesting how elements of some seem to have been mixed and matched to make the actual airing episodes.

I find it neat that many of the episodes were part of the original concept. Most of the time it just seems like TV shows just "happen" somehow and you wonder if there is a long-term master plan or not. Clearly, here there was one.

Yep, but it's also just as clear they pulled it in just a bit from the original concept.... each of the concept eps seems to have been split across several less outré episodes, save for some season 3 ones.
