I don't recall anyone in TOS/TAS saying that there was NO money. There isn't anything in Star Trek except that one idiotic line in TNG that ever gave anyone any reason to think there wasn't money in Star Trek. First, without money you've taken away a primary story motivation. Second, no matter how advanced technology is, there will have to be SOME way to evaluate goods and services. Money is GOING to be 'shorthand' for that method whatever it is.

There was that line in STIV "What does he mean 'exact change'?"...
Money is just an idea and I can see the Federation not using physical money as such - just electronic exchange of "credit" for services and products. I would suspect some variation on what has been bandied about lately concerning a basic income to start with and then you can earn additional "credits" by what you do during your life.
It would seem to be difficult for Scotty to "buy a boat", or Kirk to "sell his house" if there was nothing even remotely like money at all.
