I really like how they handled Andorians in Enterprise. Whoever was responsible for the 3rd and 4th seasons did a pretty good job of handling TOS stuff, IMO. In fact, the Tholian writeups in my game owes quite a bit to the Tholians in "Through A Mirror, Darkly."
Kinda wish the Tellarites had gotten a similar treatment. Even though they did show up, it was still somewhat scarce. I wouldn't mind seeing what their homeworld looks like.

On the other hand, it’s nice to have that hole that is open for a campaign to develop in an original way. I was thinking about the Tellarites this morning, and how they physically resemble AD&D-style pig-faced Orcs. I wonder if that analogy can be taken further in developing the Tellarites...

Here is how I currently think of the main ST races. This is only ‘warp-capable’ races, if you will. ‘Primitive’ planet-bound aliens as well as ‘evolved beyond our comprehension’ types are not covered. Basically, if I were writing a Players Handbook I would provide as playable races the eight listed in the first two columns. A “standard” campaign features a Federation Starship crewed almost entirely by Humans, though PCs may belong to any Column 1 race. Column 2 is for “alternate” style campaigns—these races would perhaps be listed in an appendix. Column 4 races would go in the Game Master Guide, along with any number of species of aliens. And Column 3 races would be featured in the Rigel Supplement. Obviously, this is only my own approach, but I thought I would throw it out there to see what you think! I like that breakdown, actually. Definitely wouldn't mind seeing a full write-up of the various Orions, myself.

And I would like to write it, especially after-the-fact of actual campaign play. (I doubt I could get motivated otherwise, and besides, all the best RPG material comes out of home gaming, IMO.)

Specifically with regard to PCs, I think a Star Trek RPG should be very humanocentric. Certainly a matter of personal preference, but to me Star Trek is about meeting the unknown, and it could get very bogged down if the PCs themselves were all unknowns. That said, one or two non-human PCs can certainly be interesting. I was having a discussion on another mailing list about this. How do you keep from having a crew of all Vulcans? Or all aliens? My solution is a random roll. You can always choose human but the roll may allow you to choose from another set of races. It's clumsy, but the best idea I could come up with to make sure most crews were mostly human. RACES Players may always choose to be human, and may have one other choice based on the following roll: 3d6 Additional Racial Choice 3-11 Player may only choose Human 12 Player may choose Human or Vulcan or Half-Vulcan 13 Player may choose Human, Andorian or Rigellian 14 Player may choose Human, Caitian or Alpha-Centauran 15 Player may choose Human, Edoan or Cygnan 16 Player may choose Human or Tellarite 17-18 Player may choose Human or Aurellian (aka Skorr) or New Species (any Federation Species)
