Anyone else here pick up David "grubman" Bezio's X-plorers - Adventures of Galactic Troubleshooters, and considered it as the basis for TOS roleplaying? It's very old school style, class-based, OGL, and very much takes the toolkit approach.
When I read it, it struck me as well suited for pulp sci-fi, but I did get it specifically as part of my Quest for old-school style Star Trek. We played a session and it's very tight and light, and I felt it could be fairly easily adapted for Trek. Unfortunately I haven't looked at it since October because of RL, but this group and the discussions made me pull it out again to evaluate. (I should point out that I've spent much of the past year in The Quest of trying to determine if something perfect or nearly perfect was already out there, or if I should roll my own).
There's a free version (direct link to PDF, 500kb) that's pretty much complete, only missing the art, sample mission and characters. That's all in the print version on Lulu, and there is one supplement out called "Galactic Troubleshooters #1". The plan had been to do a quarterly supplement, but I think David may have lost interest a bit because the game has yet to get a lot of traction. Unfortunately, it came out in August right around GenCon and so many big name games, and I think it was overshadowed (plus I don't think SFRPGs garner as much interest as FRPGs, especially amongst OSR enthusiasts).
BTW, here's a review on Grognardia where James M did a great job of summarizing the Abilities and mechanics.
Discussion around the game continues at a Yahoo Group, including that around the subject of adding Psionics, not broached in the game. And it appears that Mike Davison (Ruins & Ronin) is considering a fanzine called "Boarding Action".
So there's some info and link dump, but has anyone else here already looked at it, and what are your thoughts?
