Thanks for the welcomes. The board is a bit quiet, but that's just way it is with Trek roleplaying, I guess.
I've mainly been trying to see what rules seem most well-suited for me, as I have never played a Star Trek RPG. I'm tempted to just take the main races, their homeworlds, and any locations from the show; then just plop them down on some Traveller subsector maps and use the rules I already have available. In other words, it'd be Traveller in a Star Trek suit.
The most important technological modification would be to have warp drive instead of jump drive, if the sci-fi fan in me could permit their exclusion. Either way, I'm content with travel speeds as they are. Alternatively, warp drives could merely be an additional, more advanced, technology held only by Starfleet and other major powers. Same with phasers; they disintegrate people!
To really copy the show's premise, you'd have to have all the players choose the same career (perhaps Navy) and have a whole campaign as one of their terms of service.
Anyways, I am rambling in the "welcome, here is what our board is about" thread.

The MGT CRB includes a Warp Drive. (The average ship design will, in the conversion, gain 5 weeks of warp fuel, but has 2 or 4 of PP fuel; for a 2 week design, NP, it goes to 4 Wk overall; for a 4 week, it instead goes to 4.5 wk. But note also: SR recharges are only 4 weeks...
Now, there are a few trek conversions out there. Check on TravellerRPG.com and mongoosepublishing.com, in their forums, for the conversions.
That said, the simplest method is just to treat phasers as warp speed PA beams... That gives you turret and bay versions already.
Oh, and the TOS enterprise is betwen 12K and 15K tons displacement.

I don't have the Mongoose version; I've got the older booklets in reprint from FFE. For ideas, I may do just that and search around to see what other people have done.

All you need to know about MGT to use the MGT one's CGen is that the promotion roll is ALSO the roll to reenlist. The Continuance is that the promotion roll must exceed the number of terms, or a natural 2. The stat modifier is (stat-7)/3 for all listed stats in the table rolls. Also, an event is rolled every term.
EG: Joe's promotion TN is 6+. Term 1, he rolls a 3. He rolled more than 2, so no promotion, but continues. Term 2, he rolls 7, getting promoted, and reenlisting. Later, in term 7, he finally rolls a 6, and while getting promoted, fails to continue.

I wouldn't think it would be too hard to use Traveller for Star Trek. The easiest thing is to just play Traveller and refer to things by their Trek versions (particle beam=phasers, missile rack=photon torpedoes, jump=warp speed, etc). Use the Traveller star maps but instead of two weeks for any distance, a ship can travel at a rate of 1 hex per day (Mongoose suggests drive rating = number of parsecs per week but that's really slow to me). In that respect I'm kind of stealing from Star Frontiers. Also, remember that there are plenty of primitive planets out there to use the low tech equipment from Traveller, but the Star Fleet and equivalent organizations would be at the top of the Traveller technology levels for weapons, communication, etc (TL12-15 but not everything at the same levels). And the ship sizes are off the charts (I only have and use the core 3 books, so this might have changed in later products).

Actually, Alex, parsecs per week is pretty fast.
Given the MGT warp drive rates, and 52.14 weeks per year 1pc/w=WF5.54 2pc/w=WF6.98 3pc/w=WF7.98 4pc/w=WF8.79 5pc/w=WF9.47 6pc/w=WF10.07
That puts a Heavy Cruiser's Speed of WF8 at a mere 3pc/wk.

My, aren't we getting off-topic in the "about" thread? I still don't know if I'm going to be able to play at all. I'm putting in job apps everywhere, including the city I just moved away from! If I go back, I likely won't be able to game much. If I stay, I likely will. My gaming friends live where I am at currently. But, anyways, the idea with Traveller was to make it mostly feel like Trek and use familiar "technology" and races, not have it precisely like the show in every way. Mainly I feel like Trek is the most accessible cultural basis for a sci-fi RPG amongst my age group (mid-twenties; we grew up watching reruns, and watching TNG new as kids).

Alright, I’m obviously trying out a few things. Expanding the board’s focus by allowing a section on Traveller and a section on FASA Trek. Giving the SFU its own board, too. In short, I’m no longer restricting it to class-based systems (though they remain my personal favorite). We’ll see where it leads us! Also, splitting General so one board will be about Anything Star Trek and the other board will be about Anything Science-Fiction Role-playing. The main task to be done is to sort out all the threads to see what goes where. Anyway, hope you like the changes!

I decided to finally join, because (1) I completely agree that Star Trek OS is where it's at, and that the movies basically mark the end of that era, which is by super-uber-far my favorite, and (2) my wife just offered me the first season of OS in DVD for Christmas, which totally brings back the love of OS as I'm watching them again (I used to watch Star Trek OS with my late mother, and it was one of her favorite TV shows, God rests her soul). So here I am.
