Well, I haven't done a PBP before... and I am not sure I want to, as the concept always seemed shaky.
It would really depend on how often you expect a post, and how you handle missed posts (do you just carry on with the absent poster sidelined? do you hold everything until everybody has posted? etc).
I'll see what you post on it, and decide later (besides, I'm heading out-of-state tomorrow for 6 days to attend my oldest niece's wedding, so... ).

Missed posts: if not in media res, you're off doing whatever it was you were last doing. It's one action per day M-F. It can be short, it can be long; if it takes more time than other people's, then I'll let you know when done. Basically, I'll "process" everyone's posts some point after 2100 Z+9 M-F. What's in is in.
I'm planning on 3 threads of play: 1) In character & narration 2) Actions post and resolve 3) OOC Chatter - nothing in it is resolved as part of play, tho if a person's actions were unclear, I might see what y'all were discussing. That one is mostly for player-chatter back and forth.
Nice thing about S&S is that any trip to base or encounter with another SFS ship is grounds to bring a character aboard.
Most important attribute in PBP/PBEM is clarity. Not narrative, but clear descriptions, period.
If a character is used when the player is absent (Key skills, etc), half XP for being an NPC is my long standing rule.
Heck, if nothing else, feel free to generate a few more enlisted Apprentices and ables... destroyer get the arse end of the personnel pool for enlisted. (As a generality, on a DD, only the PC's are officers... there's only a normal crew of 10.)

VERY nice. My first thought when I saw the bus-shuttle was that it was a cross between an actual TOS shuttle & the SF Academy shuttle from the revamped ST "TOS" movie. Ciao! Grendelwulf

You got the visual references I was modeling after... Actually, I was limited by my form factor... I actually developed a formulaic approach to the deck plans, many years ago... each "Space" is about 700 cubic meters. A shuttle has to fit inside that space, with room to spare, and accounting for the round shape... so I wound up with an 8x14m pad, knocked a meter off each for clearance, and limited to 2.5m tall, too. I then used Tech Manual spacing for seats.

Sorry I have been so slow to create my character, guys. My father-in-law just passed away, so I am dealing with a lot. I will still try to create the character and post him sometime Monday morning, but just letting you know it will be a pretty crazy week for me. What do we need more, a captain or a doctor?

Yeah, a Doctor PC would be cool, but I think that a Command PC is even better.

Is this game full? Followed the link to the site from another site (it seems the same people either run or post on just about every old school rpg forum ) I have the original S&S book, bought when I had hair (or at least hair that wasn't turning grey) just bought the PDF (bit dissapointing, was hoping for updated font+pics but I guess the revised edition will bring that). I'd have to have a quick flick through the rules as it has to be over 20 years since I ran this, and my players at the time were more into thwacking stuff with swords and taking all their stuff. Anyway, here's hoping there's room for another
