Ok, leading on from the narrative thread Grayson will put his hands on the rock when the other two are set, and try to make contact with the aliens, first by talking in his mind, and then by speaking out loud if the first doesn't do anything. His words will be "hello! We come in peace!" and go from there.

Slightly smarter than a rock, he was no good as a farm hand though better at getting into fights and trouble, generally. At a young age he was given the choice of juvenile detention or straighten his life out and join the SFS. Surprisingly he took the latter and came out ok. He's still dumb as a rock though, and machines are almost like black magic to him... 1.8m, 85kg, short blond cropped hair, blue eyes, a few scars, permanently surly look on his face. Always ready for a fight, though he's not the best fighter, or that good at anything, for that matter, but he is loyal, and won't run from a fight!
