RJ doesn't seem a whole lot... But there is the buzz of tiny wildlife from down hill, and so your presence isn't alarming the bugs.
There is a large fuzzy green bug flying across the field, tho. About 20m away, headed vaguely towards you. Its maybe a cm across, and 3 long.

"Stand down, Mr. Grayson," Jasper says, "it might be intelligent- and friendly."
Jasper pulls out his Auto-Analyzer and scans the bug flying toward them to add to the computer's database.
As he is using the Auto-Analyzer, he says, "Mr. Reilly, please see if that door to the scope shed has any kind of locking mechanism. Mr. Grayson, please cover Mr. Reilly's investigation of the door."

"Will do, Skipper." RJ says, and moves, gun in hand, to the the door to examine it.

Lt. Grayson
"Aye sir." he says, whilst lowering his weapon reluctantly. He watched the bug like a hawk though, ready to blast or bat it away from the Captain if it got too near.

As the skipper scans it, it continues its flight generally towards the group. It flies about 1m/s.

Once Jasper has finished logging is scan, he prepares his Universal Translator and waits for the creature to approach closer.
Once it is about ten meters away from him, Jasper will say, "greetings! We are peaceful and mean no harm."

The creature continues towards Jasper, going vertically over him at about 4m above ground, and lands on the shack. It appears to start munching on the grease lubricating the turret.

Lt. Grayson
"Well, let's leave th' thing be n be on our way sir. Ah'm sure it didn't build th' telescope. At least ah think ah'm sure." said Grayson.
He readies his weapon and stalks about, looking for signs of more intelligent life. Or more dangerous life of any kind!

Jasper sighs as he observes the bug, and says as a ripple moves across his blue-furred head, "well, anything can be significant with First Contact, Mr. Grayson, and one must be careful and aware of their actions and consequences."
He looks to the insect and says to it with a smile and light tone, "if you turn out to be intelligent, just remember that we're the friendly visitors."
Turning his attention to the shed door, he says, "what's the status on getting that door open, Mr. Reilly?"

RJ has little difficulty opening the complex latch on the otherwise unlocked door; the latch is tricky, requiring pulling three small levers together. It opens revealing a closed barrel 3m long 2m diamet equatorial mounted scope with the eyepiece through the pivot. Hand cranks and gearings are readily visible for opening the shutters and rotating the turret.

"Skipper, this is not actually locked." RJ says, as he opens it with care. "Just tricky. Look at this, all the gears and controls for the telescope."
