Tonight was our chargen/1st session for playing WNMHGB in our group, and it was a pretty fun and lively session!
Most everyone created their characters right before play, and the Lifepath Generator got pulled into play more than a few times. Soon the crew of the Miranda class U.S.S. Argus was on it's way to Station K-7 for a meeting with Station Manager Lurry.
Of course, when they arrived there was also a Klingon vessel visiting the station as well. Beaming over, Mr. Lurry played a message from Commodore Franks from Starfleet Command, ordering the crew of the Argus to keep tabs on the Klingons in the sector, who seemed to be criss-crossing space searching for something.
The crew decide the best way to start is to see what the Klingons on the station are up to. They head to the bar and see a large group of Klingons on shore leave with their Captain, Kor. Kor makes subtle threatening and mocking comments to Captain Crockett of the Argus and then leaves his crewmen behind, muttering to his first officer in Klingon to "finish the business and get out".
Communications officer Lt. Iyoshi overhears this, and decides if the rest of the crew can distract the Klingons, she will see what the first officer is up to. So, Lt. Constatino of Engineering and Science Officer T'lila start to engage some of the Klingons in an exotic dice game, while the Captain and Helmsan Cooper watch from the bar.
Iyoshi overhears the Klingon and a freighter captain talking. The Klingon hands a small bag to the trader, who then slides a computer tape to the Klingon and then leaves in a hurry. Iyoshi, who is quite beautiful, decides to attempt to seduce the Klingon in order to gain access to the tape. The Klingon officer is like putty in her hands, and they quickly adjourn to a nearby corridor, where, during a passionate embrace, the wily Communications officer swipes the computer tape from the pocket of the unwary Klingon.
Meanwhile, Constantino is losing badly. T'lila is convinced that the dice are rigged and sees the Klingon who brought them out fiddling with something in his sleeve. Surreptitiously using his tricorder, Constantino creates a jamming signal, and causes the dice to roll the other way on a Triple or nothing bet. The Klingons are enraged to be found out and a brawl erupts in the bar, with T'Lila dropping two with a deft nerve pinch, Cooper swinging from a light fixture to plow into a group of Klingons and the Captain coolly causing two Klingons to flee with nothing more than his steely gaze.
The fight ends and the Klingons depart, and Iyoshi returns with the tape. Beaming back to the Argus, the Science Officer quickly makes a duplicate of the tape and then beams it back into the station bar to appear to have been dropped there. The Klingons warp out, and the Argus follows, just out of sensor range of the D7.
The crew discover the tape contains sensor logs from one of the freighter captains who ply this region of space, showing the sector in detail in wide swathes. Meanwhile, the Klingons suddenly change course and drop out of warp. The sensors show the Klingons a thousand miles from a small conical object maybe 30 yards across. It is highly reflective, made of an unknown material and registers as having infinite mass, even though it causes no gravitational disturbances. The Klingons move closer...
More later! Everyone had fun during this session, and quickly got into the spirit of things. We did invoke technobabble, even though we were playing TOS style, and much camp was invoked. Definitely looking forward to the next session!
