Over on Robert's GROKNARD blog there is a neat link to a True20 Star Trek RPG called To Boldly Go, which is about two dozen pages of d20 Trek coolness. For those of you not "in the know" about True20, it's a game based on the 3E SRD put out by Green Ronin games. While not actually an OD&D game, much of the terminology and basic mechanic (stats, levels, etc) is quite similar to OD&D. I thought I'd post a link, becasue it seems like this could help us not re-invent the wheel. Read ... ponder ... discuss ....

Feats? Powers? Skills? Betazoids? Denobulans? Trill?
What are ya tryin’ to pull here?
Besides, re-inventing the wheel is bread and butter for an OD&D referee. ;-)

Some of us would reinvent the wheel just to see if we can.

Feats? Powers? Skills? Betazoids? Denobulans? Trill? What are ya tryin’ to pull here? Um ... perhaps I should have warned folks a bit more about that stuff. Personally I'd ignore all of the non-TOS races and some of the other scary rules. My thought was if we are looking for "things to do" for each type of character, then this rules set looked like it might provide some ideas and inspiration. After all, our "spells" might be similar to "feats". I'm not trying to cause trouble. Don't take away my forum membership!

Some of us would reinvent the wheel just to see if we can. Yeah. I've re-invented my house rules sets so many times I lost count.

What are ya tryin’ to pull here? Also, in my defense: 1. It is a pretty rules set. 2. It has page numbers inside those neat insignia-outline shapes. I wish I knew how to do that. 3. In the picture of humans, Kirk's shirt is clearly ripped. That is as TOS as it gets! 4. The reputation rules seem kind of neat. 5. They divide up classes into Command (gold), Operations (red), and Science (blue). Pretty basic, and similar to some of the discussions we've had so far on classes. 6. There is a neat rule for getting promoted. I can see using something like that in my campaign. 7. The line drawings look like they are straight from the Star Fleet Technical manual, even though most of the photographs seem to be from non-TOS sources. All in all I thought it was kind of neat, even if it is True20. What I wish I could do is to take this file, trim out the d20 stuff, add in my OD&D material, and make a new file with better material but the same basic look. That would be kind of neat!

Finarvyn, the number in the outline is pretty easy to pretty hard, depending upon which program you use.
In Pagemaker 6 or earlier, you put the graphic on the page background, and turn off text-wrap around the object.
In Apple's Pages, you create the graphic using the bezier curves, set the background color, paste it into the header or footer, then click into the background inside the graphics, and insert a page number tag.
Word, IIRC, you create a background image containing the frame image, and then adjust the position in the footer to place it over the intended frame.

Or, if you're like me, you import the insignia image into Photoshop (or, more likely, Paint...) and then put the page number inside it yourself. Maybe more work, but you get the result you want.
