In the years immediately preceding the Organian Peace Treaty, Kaorim commands a vessel carrying out numerous raids against budding Federation settlements in the disputed territory. Following the imposition of the Treaty, Kaorim makes a name for himself within the Klingon military for his skill in manipulating outsiders into waging a proxy war on the Federation. As his political star rises, he shifts his focus to acts of sabotage, specializing in worlds cohabited by the Federation and the Empire. In the pre-Treaty period, Kaorim, having risen to command from the ranks of engineers, has physical and combat capabilities roughly average to slighty below average for a Klingon, but has above-average skill in tactical matters and intimidation. In the immediate aftermath of the Treaty, recognizing the value intimidation played in his raiding success, Kaorim further develops his social skills, making connections with Orion Pirates and anyone else he can manipulate into fighting the Federation where the Empire cannot. As the Kaorim and the Empire as a whole become accustomed to the cold war imposed by the Organians, he returns to the technical skills that launched his career, though now turned to destructive purpose.
