Okay, this one isn't for everyone. I spent a year at the Forge a while back and discovered there are many very different approaches to roleplaying game systems than I had ever imagined. For example, the one that at first made no sense at all to me and seemed to be a pretty lame document/setting is Otherkind. But go back and re-read it. Then do it again. After someone posted an adaptation of his mechanics for a D&D parody it finally struck my how beautiful and elegant and clever Otherkind was. And I realized it was perfect for Star Trek, among others, with it's almost magi-tech and high moral code.
So I unveil to you OtherTrek. This is my adaptation of another person's system, but if you can deal with Narrativist and can wrap your head around Conflict Resolution instead of Task Resolution, then you'll love this. Plus it's got cool Trek art and comes in both a screen readable and booklet form (I love creating and binding booklets)!
OtherTrek (screen copy)
I have the printable copy on my group, but it requires a little explanation to print and bind properly. If you really do play this, please tell me about it. I've never been able to find anyone who would try a Narrativist game (and lived within an hour of my house).
PS-This is OtherTrek [extended] because it includes my first attempt at an example of play. I think a system this different absolutely NEEDS one (and is a big reason Otherkind didn't make sense at first). I'm not exactly pleased with it. The non-extended version is 16 pages instead of 20 but has no blank pages so the cover (inside front, and both sides back) is a little cluttered. This looks a lot better.
PPS-The other Otherkind derivatives are pretty cool too: Star Wars (you play Jedi) and Death Gate Cycle (you play Sartan) and an unfinished D&D port.
