Boardgame Geek has a cool map for the old Task Force Gamess "Federation Space" game, with the "Lyran Space Variant" added in. I've always liked the "Federation Space" map better than the "Federation & Empire" map. boardgamegeek.com/image/1245846/federation-space

That map has things that are TNG-isms added. It's NOT the Fed Space map.

You're right. I realize that someone has taken the basic FedSpace map and tweaked it. Call it a "home brew" Trek map. Still looks a lot better than most of the others I've seen...

Hi guys. Just found this forum and decided to clarify what this is.
I basically created an updated Federation Space game with new counters and races, a new rule book and charts and the map you show above. As noted, I made several changes to the original map (such as adding the Cardassians, Talerians and Tzenkethi from TNG) but everything is built off of the original game, rules and counters. I originally also added a number of TNG ships with an eye towards incorporating them as "X Ships" but in the end I decided not to go there; the counters are now focused more on "standard" SFB ships. I left a ton of stuff "open" (different variations of ship types and such) to allow players to use what they want and ignore what they don't want.
Overall, it is simply a variant; players can take what they wish and discard the rest. The best part of it, IMHO, is the corrections to the ship factors. The Coalition now has a chance to win, which was impossible in the original game (outside of severe incompetence by the Alliance player).
Anyway, it's all posted under "Lyran Space 2.0" at BoardgameGeek, Consimworld and the Fed Space Yahoo Group (there is a copy of the original game there as well although the person that did that one renamed several planets and added the Nexus updates to the counters).
Any comments, concerns, and/or feedback is always appreciated.

HEy, Byron. I haven't visited this board for a while, so I hadn't realized that you showed up here. Nice work on the map! I need to hunt around for the yahoo group you mentioned. I love Fed Space a lot more than F&E, so anything you have done would be interesting to me.

Hey Finarvyn, I have not checked back in a while either. My apologies for that. I too love that little game! We just completed a full playtest of the Lyran Space variant that uses the map posted here and had a ball. I posted an AAR, with pictures, on the Geek. The Yahoo Group, with all the final rules, counters, maps, etc... is here: groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/FedSpace/files. I also posted them on Consimworld and have submitted them to the Geek. Another option I made was a new set of Fleet Charts for use in the original game. I haven't played too much with it yet but the hope is that, with the new counters, the Coalition will now have a shot at winning! You'll have to register (I'm the Mod; no biggee) but my variant is there along with another one by Section 31sfic which is more the original game plus some of the Nexus variants. Enjoy and let me know what you think!

I have approved it! Let me know what you think of the game!
As a side note, I just picked up an unpunched copy of the original Fed Space on ebay. I just thought it would be nice to have one that is complete and unblemished (I have numerous copies but the counters are all punched, etc...). I'm happy to say that it arrived yesterday and is in excellent condition...on my shelf.
