I have run across a number of Star Trek podcasts, for those of you who consume that type of media. I figured I would put this out there for others to share and enjoy. And if you know of one I missed, please feel free to post...
1. Mission Log: A Roddenberry Star Trek Podcast - This is a very ambitious project. John Champion and Ken Ray meet each week to discuss the messages, morals and meanings of Star Trek. Their goal is to review each and every episode of Star Trek. In addition, they do "Supplemental" episodes, in which they interview people behind the scenes in Star Trek, including people like Bob Orci, Mike and Denise Okuda, Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, and Nichelle Nichols. They have been going for just about two years, and have reviewed all of TOS, all of TAS, and all of the original cast movies (I - VI). They are about to start into TNG, then likely the rest of the movies, DS9, Voy, and Ent. Since this is somewhere around 12 years, who knows where they go from there. With all of the fan films and independent productions, and the resurgence of Trek as we approach 50 years, I'm sure they will have plenty to talk about.
2. The trek.fm network - This is a network of Trek-related shows run by Christopher Jones. Unlike Mission Log, these shows are more topical rather than being episode-by-episode. The "by-series" shows Standard Orbit explore specific elements of that series. So on the network, you have (in more or less chronological order by show:
* Standard Orbit - a dedicated TOS show with hosts Drew Stewart and Mike Schindler. (Finarvyn, Mike actually lives in Chicago...)
* Earl Grey - TNG show with hosts Phillip Gilfus, Darren Moser, and Daniel Proulx.
* The Orb - DS9 show with hosts Christopher Jones and Matthew Rushing.
* To The Journey - Voyager, hosts Tristan Riddell and Charlynn Schmiedt.
* Warp 5 - host Christopher Jones and various guests.
In addition, there are several topical shows that are not series-based.
* The Ready Room - A casual Star Trek discussion show from Trek.fm hosted by Christopher Jones that covers The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, and news from all across the Star Trek universe with a mix of humor and serious commentary.
* Continuing Mission - A podcast dedicated to the way fans keep Star Trek alive through independent series and films, games, art, and more. Host Christopher Jones sits down with fans and pros for an inside look at fan films, projects, and what drives our love of Star Trek.
* Axanar - The official podcast of Star Trek: Axanar take you behind-the-scenes of the development and production of the independent Star Trek film. Each week writers, creatives, and actors from Axanar give you an inside look into the Four Years Wars between the Klingons and the Federation.
* Commentary: Trek Stars - explores the work of Star Trek creatives beyond the Star Trek franchise. Join Mike Schindler and Max Hegel each week for a trek through the wider world of movies, television, and literature.
* Melodic Treks - Colin Higgins celebrates the music of Star Trek.
* Literary Treks - hosts Matthew Rushing and Christopher Jones explore Star Trek books and comics and chat with authors.
Quite a bit to listen to there...And there are others that have either stopped being recorded or are extremely intermittent. Most of the mainline shows I listed above are weekly. I am actually subscribed to The Orb, Standard Orbit, Continuing Mission, and Axanar, and cherry pick the others from week to week.
Hope this gives someone something to listen to other than the drivel coming out of the radio on a long commute.
