Well, I did something today that I haven't done in a long time. I bought a Star Trek fiction book. I saw it at the book store a couple of weeks ago. They had a half dozen copies in stock. Then I saw it a couple of weeks ago. They had two copies in stock. Saw it today and there was only one left. I decided that if I wanted it I ought to buy it right away, otherwise I'd be stuck haunting e-bay or something like that. It's called "The Enterprise War" and it's under the Discovery label, but it deals with Christopher Pike and is supposed to take place around two years before The Cage. I haven't kept up on the Discovery series (I have watched season 1 on DVD) so I don't know how much they dwell on these characters in the series, whether they are consistent with TOS source material or not, or really anything about how Pike and Number One and Spock fit into the series. Anyone read the book? Anyone with insight about Discovery and these characters? Anyone still post here?

I haven’t watched season 2 of Discovery, but I know Pike was a regular, acting as captain of Discovery for a while for some reason. And that Number One was in it too (played by Rebecca Romijn), as was Spock. Let us know how the book is. One of the early rumors about Discovery is that the main character would be Number One. Of course it turned out to be Michael Burnham, who is Number One of the Shenzhou in the first episode.

I'm around 40 pages in and the book is pretty decent so far. I don't have a great feel for what makes Pike different from other captains, but they start with a Federation-Klingon war breaking out and Enterprise far, far, away on an exploration mission. Starfleet tells Pike to finish his exploration, Pike wants to return to get into the action. I don't think any of that is too much of a spoiler, as I don't know for sure what Pike will do.
