Hey all, I started looking at this forum again. I don't seem to have posted since 2013?! I'm most surprised by that, as I ran a short Trek RPG using Far Trek rules, roughly Pike-era, in 2016-2017. It was fun, but I let it degenerate into a dungeon-crawl shootout at the end. My wargaming roots coming out again. I'm feeling like I want to try running Trek again, perhaps the same players and setting. I have been collecting sci-fi RPG things for a while, with an eye towards another Trek game. Since I started listening the to RPG Pop Club podcast, the idea has been growing on me. I'll probably stick with Far Trek for rules, but I recently picked up Starships & Spacemen 2, as the ship-energy system was praised in said podcast, and I already owned Lucanii Drift. There may be some kitbashing in my future.

Hey, welcome back! Yeah, kitbashing works A-OK, certainly between the RPGs we discuss here. They are all the same school, after all.

Partial update: I found in my RPG stash, a copy of "Decision at midnight", a FASA Trek adventure that I don't know where I picked up. I bet I got it in a bundle at Origins some time ago, since my brother and I sold off (oops!) our FASA collection during college. That one is set for Lieutenants as department heads on a Loknar-class frigate, so I bet I can re-skin it for a small group. I've made some progress in prepping tonight.
I'm still waffling between adopting the Starships & Spacemen 2 ship-combat system and making changes to the Far Trek one, or smushing them together somehow.

Nice. Yeah, I have Decision at Midnight and am planning to run it in a month or two. But it might be best to start with something that simply doesn’t require ship energy/travel/combat rules, as that whole aspect will definitely steepen your (and your players’) learning curve. In Episode 8 at the 1:27:35 mark we had a discussion of recommended first and second adventures. Sarah-Nicole: Ghosts of Conscience + The Drifting Ring John: The Vanished + Hazards of Space Eric: The Slaver Ruins + Ghosts of Conscience Ehren: The Shuttlecraft Crash + The Slaver Ruins (how we did it) Philip: The Drifting Ring + Hazards of Space

Hazards of Space (aka Lucanii Drift) is where I think I'd like to campaign, after starting off. If I start up with the crew I already had, I'm not too worried about them picking up starship combat. As it is, I'd like a chance to learn the ship stuff myself!

Yeah, the Lucanii Drift is pretty great!
