I always wanted to see this!
Damn, such a shame TMP didn’t stick with TOS uniforms.

I have a book that talks about Phase II and what it might have become. I guess some of the scripts got used later for TNG but I would have loved to see them make another TOS style series. Seems like a missed opportunity.
And that Vulcan with the funky 80's hair -- was that the guy who died in beamup at the start of TMP? (Xon? Something like that?)
Also, I agree about the uniforms. I had heard that someone felt like the TOS uniforms wouldn't look good on the big screen, but I think that the reboot movies showed us that TOS style colors look just fine. The change in uniforms made the movies feel wrong.

Also, here is a 13-minute video talking about the original Phase II project that never came to fruition.

I have a book that talks about Phase II and what it might have become. Oh, nice! I want that book. I do have a copy of the Phase II Writer’s Guide. And that Vulcan with the funky 80's hair -- was that the guy who died in beamup at the start of TMP? (Xon? Something like that?) Yep! The idea behind this character resurfaces with the later movies’ Saavik. I guess some of the scripts got used later for TNG Only two. But yeah, both the movie series (most obviously TMP) and TNG obviously trace their DNA to Phase II. I’ve found TMP most palatable when viewed as a TV pilot for a show that never got made (helps explain all the time spent with “reunion” scenes). To that end, I (perversely) watch a 4:3 pan and scan cut of the special longer version; I find it far more lovable than the other versions. It also makes it easier to see the parallels with the TNG pilot. The Phase II --> TNG characters Older, wiser Kirk --> Picard Decker --> Riker Ilia --> Troi Xon --> Wesley (extremely youthful prodigy) Xon --> Data (more strictly logical than Spock) It’s also interesting to me that Star Trek IV ends with a reveal of “the new Enterprise,” and the next Star Trek that gets produced is TNG, a show about a “new Enterprise”. An Enterprise which, by the way, has whale crew members permanently aboard. Also, I agree about the uniforms. I had heard that someone felt like the TOS uniforms wouldn't look good on the big screen, but I think that the reboot movies showed us that TOS style colors look just fine. The change in uniforms made the movies feel wrong. …but I would have loved to see them make another TOS style series. Seems like a missed opportunity. Yeah, me too. I have my doubts as to whether they would have been able to recapture the magic of TOS, but I would watch pretty much anything with Shatner. And the more of the TOS aesthetic congruity that they could maintain, the better. My Star Trek campaign is slightly influenced by Phase II. It is set 10 years post-TOS, but without incorporating any of the technical or uniform changes of TMP. The “era” of TOS continues. The TOS Enterprise has been encountered (only once); it’s still taking on 5-year missions.
