Jasper and RJ's communicators, sound off with "Thermopylae to Landing Party..." in O'Keef's voice. <waits for go> "Message from CSS Coral Sea. Message reads 'Freighter Ride to meet you stardate 2103.29 in system for crewman transfer, Ens Solor. Leaving our coordinates 2103.15. Request Acknowledgement.' That's about 16 hours, Sir. She's not on our scanners yet."

Jasper tries not to let the horror from what Žabar just said play across his face, and he scratches the left side of his face to distract as he says genuinely, "thank you for being so forthright with us, Tanku Žabar. Do the Drakiš force this compulsion psionically, chemically, surgically, or through torture? How would we, as new comers to your world, properly and respectfully announce ourselves and politely request communication be established?"

Lt. Grayson
As the Captain and the native speak, he keeps an eye out, hand on weapon and scouring the surrounding area for sign of the Videni. A little disappointed not to have run into them, he's still careful what he wishes for. One or two of the crazed religious nuts would be ok, but a bigger party would have the crew running for home again.

Alex, looking around, notices a pair of small eyes (2cm across), on stalks, peeking around the telescope shed.
Meanwhile, "I do not know those first two. I do know that Tanku are immune, an oddity amongst the Þrhaka and the Nging, hence why they are Tanku. There are no drukh Tanku, nor are there Zorg Tanku; they are all Šepiš. And the Drakiš are immune to it themselves, so their criminals are made Tanku," says the barrel-chested alien. "I could send my assistant down to request audience, but then you run the risk of being summarily compelled if they decide you are a problem. Or decide you're videni playing stupid."

Lt. Grayson "Ah, pardon me fer interruptin'..." said Grayson to the alien, only half taking his eyes from the thing with stalks around the back of the shed. "but do ya know we're bein' watched?" He flicked his head in the direction of the thing he'd seen. "Anythin' we should get worried 'bout?"

Žabar cranes his neck to look. "It's a Nging. This is a bad sign. Either it's a new Tanku, or a Šepiš on business. In the later case, you are in grave danger. If he's new Tanku, he has much to unlearn, and I will be busy."

Lt. Grayson
Grayson stares blankly at the alien for a moment, standing in silence for seconds, then says "Ok, thanks fer that." He doesn't have a clue what a tanku sepis is, but figures he'll try and befriend it anyway.
He starts walking towards the Tanku Sepis thing, hands held high. "Ah don't mean no harm Tanku Speis thang. We're here ta be your friends." he offers.

Jasper calmly pulls out his Communicator, opens a line to the bridge, and says, "Mr. O'Keef, please have someone standing by in the Transporter Room and lock onto our signatures for a possible emergency extraction."
He does this calmly and slowly so as not to alarm Žabar, or the Nging.

O'keef replies, "I've got 3 lifesigns in a cluster, and 20m away, 4 lifesigns in another cluster. Narrowing down...." a brief pause, "Ah, got it! I won't be able to grab your alien buddy on the first go-round."
Žabur listens attentively, noting the translation from the UT.

The being stares at Grayson, and then, when the distance hits 3m, steps out, points a large pistol at Grayson, and reveals itself. The two eyes are off of a milk-jug shaped body, with 4 tentacles off the top and off the bottom. The mouth, in the top of the body, makes several wet smacking sounds, which the lack of a UT prevents Alex from grasping. It is worried about a lot, tho'.

Grayson stops and smiles, hands away from his weapon. "Ah'm comin' in peace, no need ta vey po rise me ma googly eyed friend. Ah'm Alex. Whuts yur name?"
Without taking his eyes off the Alien, he called out to the Captain. "Say, Cap'n how's about ya try out yer machine doohickey on this here fella? Might be an idea ta know if ah'm callin' him friend and an later findin' out friend means something oh-fensive in their language."

"Urrrarrarrrrp!" It exclaims loudly. It points the gun at the ground between Alex and itself. It's curiosity is overwhelming, Almost painfully so, to both Jaspar and Alex. RJ feels nothing of it.

Lt. Grayson
Grayson calls over his shoulder. "Sir? Ah reckon it either farted or burped at me, or it's ok wi' makin' friends. That said, if ah get blasted inta atoms, get message to ma momma that ah fergive her fer whut she waz doin' wi' Uncle Cleetus that day."
Grayson, still passive, hands away from his weapons, grins and relaxes, approaching to within a few metres of the creature when he will stop, tap on his chest and say "Grayson"

The creature responds to the first step by shooting the ground in between. The sting of gravel being kicked up into Alex's shins is a sudden reminder of the armament. From the sound of it, very similar to that of Žabur.

Lt. Grayson
Grayson stops "Fair enough. We'll talk here." He looked about, then sits down. "As good a place as any."
"Cap'n, any time that universal translatin' thingammy an you is ready, we need it over here." he called over his shoulder.
Grayson looked about. Then back at the native (he was the alien, he realised). "Well ma friend, ah shore as hell ain't in Kansas no more."
