Seems to me it's been around long enough to classify as "old-school", but that's just me. I, personally, didn't care for this ruleset, but it does seem to have it's die-hard supporters out there.

Seems to me it's been around long enough to classify as "old-school", but that's just me. “Old” is not enough to make it “old school”. The former is a relative term (i.e., eventually WotC 4e will be vintage just because of the march of time), whereas the latter implies a school, that is, a particular philosophical or theoretical approach. Most RPGs designed in the 70s are old school just as a matter of course: their designers were “schooled” by OD&D. But there are even RPGs being designed today that are old school, deliberately informed by a study of the forms and methods of OD&D and its earliest offshoots. That said, since it’s all theoretical there is no impartial arbiter who can definitively state what is and isn’t old school. So this board is by necessity arbited by a fallible mortal—me. So, keeping in mind that “old school” vs “evolved” is not a value distinction (it’s not good vs bad), take with a grain of salt my personal opinion that FASA Trek is a fully evolved and modern style ruleset. If you consider how long it has been around (about a decade in-print and getting on to twice that out-of-print?) and the number of support products (which dwarfs all other Star Trek RPG lines combined?), I’m sure it does have its die-hard fans. I know of at least one online forum with a section dedicated to it. Since that site seems to fulfill discussions of FASA rules admirably, I have no desire to set up a competing board. This forum, therefore, was meant from the beginning to fill another niche. The game systems with devoted boards here are some that I know of which, in my judgment, fit that niche. All this is not, by the way, meant to indicate that FASA Trek is off-limits or even off-topic in this forum. Discussion of it is welcome. I am merely explaining why I did not start a board dedicated to its mechanics. Hope that works for everyone! Regards.

Sounds cool to me. Love the boards you've set up!

As with other "just-starting" forums I've seen (The Piazza, for example), this one will evolve with time.
New sections will be set up as there is demand (read number of threads with active participation, etc.) that currently has not shown itself.
That said, although I have, play, and like the FASA TOS game, I can get a lot more involved and widespread discussion of it on the board Falconer linked.
This here board is for exploration of a different style of game (and game-play), and while comparison and discussion of FASA-Trek in the context of 'old-school play" is fitting here, it will always be a little bit of an "outsider"... and I am fine with that.
