A kind soul helped me accquire a copy of this little gem from back in the halycon days of 1982. This is the same game as the Heritage Models Star Trek game, with two interesting additions that I have found so far: a skill system and a starship combat game that is based on Star Fleet Battle Manual. Makes sense, as the designer is "Michael Scott", or as we know him Michael Scott Kurtick. It even has the stats from the Heritage game (minus the names for the Star Trek characters - but the Klingons and Romulan guy get to keep their names) and the very same sample adventure. It does appear to have some expanded explanations. This actually renders the game somewhat playable. I find myself resisting the urge to run an online game of this...but I might not be able to resist much longer... Allen

Neat! I admit, though my review of STAGFF was lukewarm, I am intrigued at the idea of taking all the Zocchi-Kurtick Trek games (the various Battle Manuals plus Space Patrol/STAGFF/Star Patrol/Starfleet Voyages) and putting them all together. It seems like you would end up with a fun game, and it sounds like Starfleet Voyages does a lot of that work for you.
I'm still leaning towards Starships & Spacemen and Original Star Fleet Battles, but a lot of work remains to be done to seriously compare the various editions of the Zocchi-Kurtick games, as well as the pros and cons of Z-K vs S&S and Z-K vs OSFB. Regards.

Been looking over the "Starflight" ship combat game that comes in the Starfleet Voyages box. Looks like a simplified Star Fleet Battle Manual reduced in scale somewhat to fit on a tabletop. I like the addition of the "campaign" rules. Might have to give this a try. As it currently stands, using it with the RPG might be a bit tough, as it does not appear that PC skills can influence outcomes in the game, although the skill rules on page 39 have a Ship's Weapons kill that "adds +5% (for each 3 levels of skill to fire accuracy if the character is operating the weapons". Similar things exist in the Impulse Drive and Warp Drive skills, and Deflectors. Should be possible to expand that concept to other skills as needed. I don't want to turn this into another Star Fleet Battles, but by stealing a few good ideas from the FASA game (individual panels for the Bridge positions), this could be spruced up a bit Allen

My statement (and that of other reviews I have read) that the RPG character skills are not used in the ship combat game is wrong. On page 70, rule C-21 explains how certain skills interact.
- A character with Ship's Weapons skill may modify Hit Probability by 5% for every 3 levels of skill
- A character with Helm Skill may modify an attacker's Hit Probability by 5% for every 3 levels of skill ("evasive maneuvers, Mr. Sulu")
- A character with Engineering skills such as Impulse Drive, Warp Drive, etc. can modify repair rolls for those systems in a similar fashion
- When hits are taken in a starship section where characters are determined to be in, the character must make a saving throw of 4d6 vs. Luck to avoid taking X hits where X is the difference between the roll made and the character's Luck (ouch!)
Nothing for using Medical skill to reduce casualties but that shouldn't be too tough to figure out.

Love it!! Please let me know how it goes. AFAIK, I'm the only one in the west who has ever played "The Drifting Ring". My only advice: spice up the beasts that show up in random encounters. The defaults are kind of boring. And toss the monkeys

Allen I've been trying to get copies of StarFleet Voyages and Star Patrol for a while. If you , or anyone else, are ever interested in selling or trading a copy of Starfleet Voyages, Star Patrol, or Space Patrol please let me know.

Unfortunate, really. It's one of those things where the price of its rarity far outweighs the value of its collectability. I'd really like to get my hands on a copy somehow, just to be able to read the direction they ended up taking for the campaign and starship rules.
So far I've resigned myself to having to wait a decade or more for the collecting craze to die down, and then see if I can locate a copy for cheaper…

Bit more than my available paypal at the moment. I've the older, just barely playable if you squint hard enough, version, Space Patrol.

What is available for $10 on Noble Knight? The only thing I found is a later printing Star Fleet Technical Manual.
It says Starfleet Voyages was last in stock in 2021.
I would geek out hardcore if I ever saw a copy of Starfleet Voyages, but that ship has sailed, as they say. For the record, I ended up essentially using STAGFF for character stuff and S&S (1E) for space stuff, and nothing could be more perfect!
