Hey guys,
Falconer over at OD&D discussion invited me to come over and post about my new game - VOX! Here's the skinny:
VOX is a semi-seuqel to a simple fantasy game I wrote called GAX (notice a pattern, with the names?) Like its predecessor, VOX is a simple, fast-and-loose old-school game - the difference is that while Gax is very clearly "D&D fantasy," Vox is the sic-fi equivalent. I've described it as a system where Mr. Spock, Gallagher Galloway, Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Terminator can team up to fight klingons in abandoned martian aqueducts. That's basically the right of it. I illustrated it myself, and the book came out looking pretty good.
Some Features of Vox...
Can it run Star Trek?
I think so? I included alternate rules for putting the PCs in a large, federation-like military structure, with the equipment they can requisition tied to their level... I haven't played with those rules yet, though. My games have all been about scummy salvage crews and mercenaries so far. Maybe you'll be the first to try it out?
All the pieces are there, I'm just not sure how they shake out. Running a straight ST game would be a matter of taking things OUT (some of the aliens, weird equipment, power armor etc) not necessarily grafting anything on.
What are you waiting for?
DOWNLOAD VOX!
Comments and questions are always appreciated. Reports from play even more so. If you like the game, pass it on! I'd love to see reviews on your blogs, too - for purely logical reasons.
Vulcanians are completely original idea, if you were wondering
Happy playing!

- No setting - everything in the game is pretty clearly a gestalt of stuff from mainstream sci-fi... If it's in Star Trek or Star Wars, in other words, you should find it here.
- Rules for combat, science, ESP, starships, mass combat - all in about 30 pages!
- Similar enough to OD&D that it shouldn't have much of a learning curve - it's not a retroclone, but you probably already know how to play, for the most part
