Most of the new ship materials are portable back to 1E.
The character materials - not so easily.
It moves from 4 atts and 4 skills to 6 and 4, so it's able to convert, but given the skills are based upon class, rather than rolled and suggesting which class one enter...
1E: Inborn= Psi, Charisma, Str/Con/HP, Loyalty Trained= Marksman, Intelligence, Technical, and Contact
2E: Inborn= Str, Con, Dex, Int, Chr, Psi Skills = Combat, Science, Technical, Contact
Backporting 2E races: So, adapting the races, Int or science mods should map to 1E Int. Str and Con both map to Con Dex and Combat to Marksmanship.
Loyalty needs to be mapped, but I'm too lazy at the moment to do the math. (It's been a 2 nosebleed day, and I've only been awake for 3 hours.)
Gear is mostly portable.
The Ship's Locker rule is a nice addition.
It's nicely written, but the font looks horrendous on my screen, unless I zoom in. I may give it a shot someday soon.

So, does the 2e have a lot of new content? Are there any support materials yet?

There are a half dozen new races, and about 10% more equipment, plus a new class of ship. I didn't notice any new enemy races.
The section on "forehead races" is useful.

Been having trackpad trouble - the last sentence is missing the word (that I had typed) "enemy".
No new Enemy races, only new confed ones.

Ahhhh.... I understand now. I loath trackpads. I love trackpads... when they're working. The crap they installed on the Macbook air is the worst I've ever encountered - it has a built in rocker switch instead of a separate button... and mine's decided to be hypersensitive. I've had to return to using the dreaded MOUSE. (For graphics work, however, I prefer a trackball.) A correction, as well. It's 4 new player races, not 6. And there are a few new threat races as monsters, but none are explicitly spacefaring.
