Stardate: 2268.298 Setting: Exterior Secondary HullThe first couplings check out just fine, moving to the next couplings show nothing wrong either, there is some wear on the third coupling that looks a bit unusual but your scans prove that there is nothing wrong. At the final coupling on the primary hull the connection is secure but as you begin to think about ascending to the saucer section, you notice that there is a third cabling that has been run parallel to the two normal connections. This third cable has been splice into the two and runs back to the dry dock. The other item that catches your eye is there are no lifts or dry dock personnel moving around the lattice work of the dry dock, almost like a ghost town... No one around?, thought da Costa. Odd. we were supposed to be triple-timing it to be ready for departure...First things first, turning he faced the triple-cables again. Is this supposed to be a backup? With the other couplings across the ship, that is just TOO redundant, even for a incoming cadet. Someone put this here and it DOES NOT belong. His hand brushed against the tool-pack on his side. Should he remove it? Whoever put it here may know if the connection is severed. Yellow Alert, Vince, he reached for his helmet-com. In fact, how do you know someone isn't listening? Be careful... Tapping the suit-to-suit inter-link, as well as, the Main Bridge sub-channel, he said: <<Commander Scott, I'm at the final portside coupling. Alpha, Beta, and GAMMA cables are in place and functional. Section D12-927 should be all clear. >> The commander should realize that's one too many connections. And hopefully, if anyone is listening on the Bridge and thinks it relevant, they'll check on that compartment 927. Or maybe even look at this area of the dock. << The 'plumbing status' is as you said earlier. My suit's ventilation is a bit DRAINed, CLOGging my visor. When it's ALL CLEAR, I will REMOVE myself to the next coupling unit.>> Reaching down to his tool-pack, he carefully removed his ion-welder.

<<Aye lad, test to make sure that the Gamma lead is not hot, that might be what is causin' the interference.>>
Out of the corner of your eye you thought there was some movement but when you turned, there was nothing there, a shadow maybe....

By the book again, Vince. And stop getting so jittery, you know you're the only one out here...right? Yeah, right... Keeping the ion-welder in his left hand while thumbing the tricorder controls, da Costa begins scanning the Gamma lead for any activity. Once he gets a reading, he broadens the scan in a short burst to read if there are any other energy reading 'anomalies' around him.

Scanning the cabling shows that there is no activity on the "gamma" cable, there is activity on the "alpha" and "bravo". The engineering tricorder shows no other unusual readings, there is power obviously in the lattice work of the dry dock and of course in the Exeter. Though you do notice now looking at the tricorder that some of the external sensor nodes have been knocked out of alignment as well.

"Good, there is a smaller officer on the other end of the sickbay when your ready it's all yours, but when you get settled in the captain has asked if one of us could stop by Cargo Bay 1 and go over the medical records of the scientists that we are escorting." Moving and straightening a picture on his desk. "Would you mind taking a trip down there and speaking to their doctor, a Janice Leist." "Certainly, Sir." Sloan nodded his head toward Pearl, then turned and left the room. On his way out out of sickbay, he looked at the door of what must be his office, but he didn't look in. The excitement was gone, to say the least. Once in the turbolift, he considered - did he want to go to his quarters first? No, no need to settle in. Better to get right to work. He turned the turbolift toward Cargo Bay 1. In a few minutes he was walking into the bay... (o/c : Did TOS have voice recognition in the turbolifts? Can't remember...) The turbo lift deposits you safely and entering Cargo Bay 1 you can see it is bustling with activity. Before long you are directed to a group of temporary quarters that have been set-up Dr. Leist's is marked with a sign.

"Sir!" They both become a little stiffer but then relax remembering probably that they are not at the academy any longer. "Engineering has been chasing down power spikes and surges since we upgraded the polarized elements of the primary sensors." The other ensign from sciences speaks out, "Now our internal sensor grid is down and out." "We are trying to re-calibrate from the engineering station directly to the science station." "All right", Long said. "I'll oversee the calibration sequence manually at the station, unless there are some connections somewhere else you need chased down? The sooner we're up and running the better, and I just want it to be right" Working for a few hours you seem to be making progress when the power spikes again but this time one of the ensigns yells, "Sir you got it whatever you did, the internal sensor grids are all working." ((There was nothing you did, in fact it's odd that they came up and are working.))

(OOC note - I'm keeping myself quiet only because I think I pushed myself too far ahead with going off duty and taking the night watch. I'll be off camera until you're ready for me to jump back in, timewise.)

Though you do notice now looking at the tricorder that some of the external sensor nodes have been knocked out of alignment as well. No activity in the gamma cable, da Costa noted as he slowly put his ion-welder back in its place. And these sensor nodes...it's possible their misalignment could be sending interference of false (ghost?) signals through to the ship. The gamma cable may even be acting as a line into the ship's systems. Whatever gremlins or ghosts have been getting in, this may be their open door. Pulling an anti-magclamp from his toolkit, he bent down towards the gamma cable. No reason not to do this neatly, thought da Costa. What did you think it was, Vince? Romulan spies hacking into the ship? Ghosts of a tormented crew come back to haunt us? You should start writing holo-novels with an imagination like yours.Activating the anti-magclamp, he began detaching the gamma cable. << The line is dead, commander. I am detaching it now. >> Did you have to say DEAD, Vince?<< Some sensor nodes need re-allignment nearby. As soon as the cable's detached, I'll get to them. We should still have a little more than an hour according to the Bridge for staying out here. I can check the remaining cables on the saucer's hull if you'd like to head back inside, sir.>>

He sure is fast. Of course, he has a few thousand more EVA hours than you do, Vince. Better hustle...The young engineer flipped open his tool pack and headed for the first group of sensor nodes. As he knelt down, he glanced toward the dry dock briefly. As deserted as it appeared, he couldn't help but give a brief salute in its direction. Coincidentally, the nodes needing reallignment were all in a direct path to the deserted dock.

You don't have to wait long your looking around when from around a corner comes a woman who looks very angry. Seeing you she stops, "Well, lookee here a true to life Starfleet BOY scout." ((Glenn Close is who I am thinking of but have not found a pic yet.)) A smaller man with glasses catches up, "Ma'am this I'm sure is one of the ships physicians, they did tell us they wanted to look at our medical records." Looking exasperated,"Alright and you are Doctor who?"

Finnegan ate slowly, savoring the taste of the stew. He'd written the replicator code himself after writing down his gran's recipe.
Code.
Code.
Wait a minute...he pondered.
"Computer, run an emulation in situ of PHAS6 hardware; use any custom programs run by weapons control personnel prior to...uh, their deaths."
It'd take time, and manual tweaking of the code as it ran, but the simulation just might show whether or not someone had managed to route around operational protocols and caused the malfunction through programming - either erroneously or deliberately.
