I've been going through old issues of magazines such as The Space Gamer and Different Worlds lately and thought I'd share some fun stuff I ran across: Star Patrol Reviews (PDF) Star Patrol Designer Notes (PDF) Misc Reviews including Star Patrol Mission Master Pack, Task Force's Federation Space and FGU's Space Opera 2E (PDF) The SF RPGs of 1983 with emphasis on Trek, and other games including Gamma World revised, Space Opera, Morrow Project, the state of Traveller, James Bond 007... man, what wonderful days these were! (PDF) An ad for Federation Space and a cute ad for miniatures (JPGs) More to come! Enjoy!

Very cool. For whatever reason, I rarely bought copies of SPACE GAMER and DIFFERENT WORLDS. (How I wish I had more money back then...) It's neat to see more content from those magazines. Now if only someone could put out issues on PDF like they did for Dragon...

Thanks, Robert. Very cool stuff
Now I just need to find a copy of Star Patrol (hopefully for trade) so I can complete the series of Michael Scott's games

Now if only someone could put out issues on PDF like they did for Dragon... Tadashi Ehara said a few years ago that he planned on digitizing DW and making it available, but I haven't seen him peek out in years. I should really track him down (nicely!) as I believe he lives/works here in SF. Now I just need to find a copy of Star Patrol (hopefully for trade) so I can complete the series of Michael Scott's games I really need to sit down and write up the definitive comparison between Star Patrol and Starfleet Voyages. It's more than just the components and the setting. Actually, I should really take it back to Space Patrol -> STAGFF -> Star Patrol -> Starfleet Voyages, and include notes on how Star Fleet Battle Manual works into the history as well. I've been thinking on and off that I might like to write-up a very extensive history of SFRPGs from '76 to '81 (perhaps even convert my dead blog to the subject). I have nearly everything from those first 6 or so years with the exception of Tyr's Space Quest, which is a pretty big gap. I'm just not convinced all that many people would care. In some ways, moreso then than now, SFRPGs were a niche of a niche.

your blog is dead? that is a true tragedy..I really enjoy it. A definitive history of SFRPGs would be wonderful and I definitley would care I know a number of others that would too. Maybe we can finallly put that "Traveller was the first SFRPG" stuff to bed permanently. Allen

your blog is dead? that is a true tragedy..I really enjoy it. Sorry, figure of speech. I haven't killed it, just needed a break and now I'm trying to determine where to go with it from here to keep myself interested in it. It got to the point where I was posting so much that I felt I was writing about games, rather than writing for games or playing them.

Thanks for the stuff, Robert. You more than anyone are making these old games seem alive again!

The 1980 Star Trek Maps, with four giant maps charting the original voyage of the starship Enterprise, and a 32 page booklet "Starfleet Command Introduction to Navigation".
